Magenballon / Gastric balloon

STOMACH BALLOON / GASTRIC BALLON FOR WEIGHT LOSS

Implantation and explantation of gastric balloon

For patients with a BMI between 27-34 who want to reduce their weight NON-SURGICAL, implantation of a gastric balloon is recommended. The gastric balloon is implanted on an outpatient basis during a gastroscopy (duration of the intervention approx. 30 minutes). The balloon is inserted into the stomach through the mouth with the gastroscope, filled with saline solution and left in the stomach. It gives patients a quick satiety. No general anesthesia. The implantation takes place under sedation. You go home the same day. After 6-12 months, the gastric balloon is removed (again during a gastroscopy).

In the first few days after the implantation, most patients experience severe nausea, which sometimes leads to vomiting. This is normal and will subside after the first 1-2 weeks. To help you get used to it, your doctor can prescribe medication that will minimize side effects.

Balloon helps you to feel full quickly and to change your eating habits. The best results are achieved if you exercise a lot and eat healthily during this time. Clinical study by Orbera from the USA has shown that the patients lost an average of 15 kg weight with the gastric balloon.
